2024 Kove MX250
The Kove MX250 is the perfect small-bore, moto-leisure four-stroke. An excellent blend of affordability and performance, the MX250 proves that you don’t need to spend a fortune to have a blast on the track!
With an MSRP that hasn’t been seen on a 250F motocross bike for nearly 20 years, you might expect the MX250 to be lacking features or quality, but this isn’t the case with Kove!
At first glance, you’ll notice the quality of the plastic and how well the body work integrates and fits together. Once you swing a leg over it, you’ll feel how flat and narrow the rider cockpit is, and there is nothing on the shrouds or side panels that sticks out to catch your boots or knee braces.
The 237lb dry weight matches many of the big-name competitors in the category, and is appreciated when flicking the bike around on the track or throwing it up on the stand after a moto.
The suspension is well balanced and fully adjustable; during our Utah test sessions, both our big and small test riders were able to dial the MX250 in to their personal preferences just with clicker, sag, and fork height adjustments.
The Kove MX250 puts out 37.5hp at the rear wheel and delivers strong performance that is perfect for 90% of riders out there. It is plenty capable on the track, and it’s 6-speed transmission means it’s a lot more fun and versatile offroad than all the 5-speed 250Fs out there.
In the power department, the 249cc DOHC, EFI engine fires up quickly hot or cold with a press of the electric start button. Do you think you’ve seen this engine before? Despite visual similarities, this engine is unique to Kove. The engine is a joint venture between Kove and Zongshen. It is a Kove-designed crankshaft with a billet connecting rod, and a Kove-designed flywheel and stator for less rotational mass. Kove designed the cylinder head, piston, and camshafts, boosting the compression ratio to 14:1. The clutch has also been improved, featuring more plates and better material than Zongshen. The outer engine cases are also slimer to provide better feel and improved access to the foot controls. So while visually it may look similar, this motor is nothing like the other Zongshen NC250/300 motors.
Features may include:
- MODERN, VERSITILE POWERPLANT
The heart of the MX250 is the 37.5hp DOHC powerplant. Featuring Electric Start, Fuel Injection, and a 6-Speed Transmission, it delivers excellent performance for a price tag that hasn’t been seen in YEARS!
- SLIM, NARROW, AND FLAT
Kove engineers put in a lot of extra hours designing the looks of the MX250. It doesn’t look like anything else on the on the market, but it goes beyond aesthetics; the shrouds are narrow and won’t catch your boots or knee braces, the seat is the perfect firmness with a flat profile and great grip, and the side panels are narrow and don’t stick out. Even the rear fender has integrated grips to make lifting the MX250 onto the stand a breeze.
- READY TO PLEASE A WIDE VARIETY OF RIDERS
During our test sessions, we were pleased with the ability to dial the MX250 in for a wide variety of riders. From tall and heavy to short and light, MX250 is easy to dial in with simple clicker changes, sag adjustment, and control movements.
